For several centuries it functioned here one of the largest castles in Eastern Pomerania, the center of a vast circle of castle, and later a historically documented the land of Garczyn. Probably on the shore of a nearby lake, about a thousand years before, the local people had been baptized and received into the ranks of the sons and daughters of Christ. It is probably the place where the first Polish rulers Mieszko I and Boleslaw the Brave ordered to build a temple of the new Christian faith. It is impossible to determine the time when the temple was founded. There are, however some presumptions that the current temple was created in the late 16th century being the third church, the successor to the wooden church of St. Catherine. Unquestionably, the parish of Garczyn is one of the oldest in Pomerania. Disputes historians refer only to the time of its creation: 12th and 13th centuries.
Interesting fact: During the archaeological excavations between the lake Duze and the Priest Mountain (Ksieza Gora) were found tomb boxes with ashtrays which would point to an existing site in the village of about 1,400 years BC. In the early Middle Ages a surface of 3 hectares on the hill was used to build the castle.
