Teatr Leśny (the Forest Theatre) in Gdańsk Wrzeszcz

Each year, from May to September it hosts numerous events, concerts, and festivals. Teatr Leśny in the Gutenberg Grove in Gdańsk Wrzeszcz was opened in 1911. A quiet hollow near the road from the so-called Forest House to the Devil’s Bridge was selected to serve the theatre. The slope of the 80-metre high Winter Hill (named after a distinguished Mayor) housed a three-level stage and an orchestra pit in the hollow. The seats were located on the slopes of the opposite Hevelius Hill and could hold up to 2 thousand people. Changing rooms for artistes and toilets were built among the greenery, electricity was connected, and the area was surrounded by a fence, with ticket booths at the entrance. The theatre was active until World War 2.

Teatr Leśny renewed its activities towards the end of the 1990’s. Since 2001 the Artistic Integration Club “Winda” has been its host. Since that time, the Theatre has welcomed such bands, musicians, and artistes as VooVoo, Pink Freud, Kury, Grzegorz Turnau, Kabaret Limo and many others. Jazz concerts and various performances enjoy great popularity.
