The Museum of Noble Tradition in Waplewo – a department of the Gdańsk National Museum

The final owners of Waplewo, the Ogończyk-Sierakowski Counts, who held the property until 1939, were involved for almost 200 years in political, artistic, scientific, educational and social activities. Their contribution to the preservation of the national traditions in Pomerania and operations aimed at guaranteeing the Polish nature of this land, deserves special emphasis.

The Waplewo manor was something of a model of a “Polish manor” due to its architectural form and intellectual atmosphere, which was often stressed by national press and its guests, which included many great representatives of Polish culture. The owners of Waplewo remained in close relations with Gdańsk – a centre of culture and science – with much influence on the nature of many noble residences, not only in Royal Prussia, but throughout all Poland.
