Some distance from the town centre, near the railway station, there is a 20-metre-high railway bridge built of six spans with rounded portals, made of ceramic brick. Its arches are based on granite stone buttresses. The bridge built over the Boruja river cutting the ravine was modeLled on Roman aqueducts . It was to become a section of the first railway line from Bytów to Korzybie. However, no train has ever entered it. Soon after the construction was completed, changes were made to the planned layout of the railway tracks. The tracks were moved several dozen metres south. The reasons for this decision are still shrouded in mystery. Since 1884 the only function of the bridge has been decorative. During the economic crisis of the 1920’s the image of the bridge was printed on 2-mark banknotes issued in Bytów.
Today we can admire the bridge’s facade, detailed construction, and rich ornamentation. The structure is a highlight not only among the railway bridges of old Prussia, but also in all of Europe. The sandstone blazons placed on the pillars catch the eye. These represent the coats of arms of the Reich, Pomerania, Prussia, Bytów, and German Railways.
