The lighthouse was also a pilot tower and was equipped with an extraordinary instrument that was the time sphere. Each day at noon its rise and fall allowed ship captains to adjust their chronometers to the exact hour. Since 2008 a replica of the sphere has been showing time just like in the old days. Since 2004, the lighthouse has been open to visitors, and its interior features old optical devices, as well as an exhibition of lighthouse keeping. The top of the structure provides an amazing view of Gdańsk Harbour, Westerplatte, and the entire Gdańsk Bay, as far as to Gdynia and Hel.
