St. Ignatius Loyola’s Church in Gdańsk

This is the seat of the Roman-Catholic parish of St. Ignatius Loyola in Gdańsk, the seat of the Stare Szkoty chapter, and also the residence of the Metropolitan Archbishop of Gdańsk.

It is the fourth church in the history of Stare Szkoty. The previous three churches were destroyed during the siege of Gdańsk, all erected by Jesuit priests. In 1777, a wooden bell tower was built by the church, which has been ringing for the Sunday Mass to this day. The church is located nearby the Jesuit college, where Józef Wybicki, the composer of the Polish national anthem, received his education.

Inside the church, there are as many as ten side altars, and a painting of Ignatius Loyola, brought in in 1908, and also a 300-year-old grandfather clock and organ from 1876.
