A Former Jerusalem Hospital in Malbork

The name should not be understood literally today, as these were not places to treat patients, but institutions serving as shelters and places that today are called nursing homes. They were supported by the municipality through donations that were paid by the potential residents of these places, as well as by donations of townspeople, both rich and poor. They wanted to provide for themselves a place to spend the elderly age. These objects as places of potential epidemic danger were situated outside the city walls.

The preserved building of Jerusalem Hospital dates back to the 16th century founded on a rectangular, brick building, partly plastered, with two storeys. Gable roof covered with monk and nun tiles. The peaks of the double bent edges, topped with a frontage, decorated with plastered friezes framed with profiled cornices. Currently some restorative measures are taken by the German rescue association, which was established especially for this initiative. In the near future it is planned here to create a Museum of the City and the center of Polish-German cooperation.
