Erected in 1346 as an additional flanking protection of the then western fortification of Gdańsk.
A massive, octagonal building is covered with a characteristic cone-shaped roof. The thickness of the walls in the lower part of the tower reaches 4 metres. On the lowest level of the tower there is a warehouse indicating the tower’s original purpose as a redoubt adjusted for long and unassisted defence. In the later years, the building also functioned as a powder tower.
Currently, the tower houses the classrooms of the Academy of Fine Arts.
