The Church ruins in Steblewo

During the Swedish Deluge in 1656, Gdańsk residents built a rampart in the vicinity of Steblewo to protect access to the Vistula, but it was captured by the Swedish troops along with the village.

Visiting Steblewo it is worth going to see the Gothic Church erected in the second half of the 14th Century. The two-storey structure featuring a massive front tower and a porch on the western side, was destroyed in a fire in 1945. From that time only the external walls and part of the tower remain. At first the temple was used by the Catholics, but in the 16th Century it was taken by the Evangelicals. The church is encircled by a historic cemetery established here along with the temple, and which remains in the shrine and tomb of the Wessel family of 1854 and grave stelae from the 18th and 19th Centuries.
