Designed by Bohdan Damięcki and Tadeusz Sieczkowski. It was their brave design which won the urban and architectural competition for development of the South Pier. The building consists of three parts: the tallest of them – middle one – refers to the ship style: it is rounded, with top floor extension and a small roof supposed to look like captain’s bridge. Inside there is a hall, a meeting room and club rooms. In the northern part there was an indoor swimming pool. The Sailor’s House was supposed to be the centre of Polish sailing, however, the outbreak of world war II only a year after it was built thwarted the plans. Today the building houses Faculty of Navigation of Gdynia Maritime University. There is a planetarium which was built on from the marina’s side in the 70’s.
This building is on Gdynia modernism route.
